deliver expert-level lactation support and education to families
in-hospital and post-discharge. While promoting breastfeeding

lactation support services seven days a week. This role will
primarily be in the evening from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 2:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m. We provide lactation support services 7 days a
week. This role will primarily be Monday-Friday, however, all
Consultants on the team are expected to work at least one weekend
during a calendar month, and will have days off during the week
when they are scheduled to work that weekend. Location: Santa
Monica Mahmee's overarching goal is to deliver expert-level
lactation support and education to families both in-hospital and
post-discharge. While promoting breastfeeding remains a primary

choose the best feeding method for them. The goal of this role is
to deliver quality, compassionate bedside patient care in the
hospital setting to improve breastfeeding outcomes. To accomplish
this goal, you’ll need knowledge in: Newborn Feeding Behaviors:
Newborn feeding behaviors in the first 42 days of life. Latching
and Positioning: Latching and positioning newborns using
symmetrical latch techniques. NICU Patient Needs: Have a thorough
understanding of the unique needs of NICU patients Feeding
Challenges : Understand the common feeding challenges of dyads with
complex medical situations such as SGA, pre-term delivery,
hyperbilirubinemia, low blood sugar, IUGR, and LGA Breast Pump
Operation: Understand the operation of breast pumps and their
indications for use. Impact of Birthing Practices: Understand the
impact of birthing practices on breastfeeding. You must have all of
these skills: Feeding Devices: Proficiency in selecting and using
feeding devices such as supplemental nursing systems, nipple
shields, and finger feeding to improve health outcomes.
Communication: Excellent communication with patients, team members,
and hospital staff Clinical and Critical Thinking: Strong clinical
skills combined with critical thinking abilities Workload
Management: Ability to prioritize and manage patient workload based
on acuity levels Assessment Skills: Conducting maternal and infant
assessments to identify feeding challenges Latch and Position
Instruction: Providing bedside instruction on proper latch and
positioning techniques. Your responsibilities include but are not
limited to: Provide hands-on, clinical lactation guidance and
support to mother-baby dyads on breastfeeding techniques and
challenges at the bedside. Educate and instruct mother-baby dyads
on hand expression, milk collection, breast pump use, and the use
of various feeding devices. Document patient care promptly in the
company’s EHR and EPIC systems. As part of an interdisciplinary
team, collaborate with hospital staff, physicians, nurses, and
occupational and physical therapists to develop feeding plans for a
range of infants, from normal newborns to complex neonates. Use
clinical and critical thinking skills to assess, diagnose, and
treat breastfeeding challenges. Construct appropriate feeding plans
to support the health of the dyad and their feeding goals. Counsel
patients on breastfeeding techniques and strategies, individualized
to the dyad's unique medical needs. Monitor and report to hospital
staff on patient's progress with breastfeeding Ensure feeding
equipment is properly stocked and cleaned. Engage in staff
education sessions Requirement Active IBCLC Certification Available
to work evening shifts: 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. to
