Job Description:

Under the director of the Medical Office Administrator, the Clinical Research Nurse has working knowledge of clinical research activities and is responsible for the coordination of clinical research protocols, working under compliance with federal regulations, good clinical practice (GCP), Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines, department standard work, and performance within their scope of practice.



Essential Functions:


  • Coordinates research activities in consultation with the Investigator, Research Program Manager, protocol and sponsor in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Trains and assists CRC I/II as necessary.
  • Ensures study binders for each participant in a study is complete and accurate.
  • Attends investigators' meetings as required.
  • Per Investigator's orders, provides patient and family education regarding study requirements, risks/benefits/side effects of investigating agents, provided information on the Investigational Subjects Bill of Rights, Use and Disclosure of Protected Health Information and obtains written informed consents.
  • Performs data collection procedures as directed by the research protocol with accurate, thorough source documentation and submits data to sponsor in a timely manner.
  • Networks and researches potential new studies.
  • Performs regulatory functions for existing and upcoming studies.
  • Works with PI and Research Program Manager for input to ultimately submit to local or central IRB.
  • Recruits and enrolls patients into various studies, working with other Physicians & Allied Health Professionals across multiple departments.
  • Manages monitor visits and audits
  • Consistently maintains organized record of all research activities, as required by the sponsor and standard work, including but not limited to regulatory documents, source documents, various tracking logs, and correspondence.

    Additional Responsibilities:


    • Ensures secure, accurate inventory of study medications/supplies.
    • Ensures current temperature logs for all research medications, or delegates as appropriate and promptly reports temperature excursions to appropriate personnel.
    • Participates in St. Jude Heritage Healthcare work groups, meetings and activities as assigned.
    • Responsible for knowing their legal scope of practice and maintain clinical competence with regards to skills under license or certificate.
    • Supports team effort, exhibits willingness to accomplish tasks, follows through on tasks until they are completed.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Position Qualifications:

      Education:


      • High School Diploma or GED required
      • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

        Experience:


        • 2-years Clinical Nursing experience in an acute care and or ambulatory setting required

          License/Certification:


          • Active RN License in the State of CA
          • Current BLS for HealthCare Providers

            Computer Skills: Basic skills including Microsoft Word, Windows, Excel, EMR, Network printers, Fax machines and email systems.




            • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
            • Organizational skills and management of large number of electronic forms and data points
            • Functions as a leader for the research team by serving others, anticipate their needs and utilize problem solving strategies.
            • Computer ability and knowledge of various E.H.R. operating systems.
            • Ability to train others in obtaining a 12 lead EKG
            • Demonstrates competency in patient education (i.e., cardiovascular diagnosis, disease management and interventional procedures)
            • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
            • Excellent interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
            • Organizational skills and management of large number of electronic forms and data points
            • Functions as a leader for the research team by serving others, anticipate their needs and utilize problem solving strategies.
            • Knowledge of lab values, pulse oximetry
            • Understand the principles of human subject research protection
            • Knowledge of Human Subjects / Research Subject Bill of Rights

              Preferred Position Qualifications:

              Education:


              • Bachelor of Science in Nursing

                Experience:


                • 2 + years Clinical Research experience preferred
                • 3 + years Sub Specialty Nursing Experience in an acute care/ambulatory setting preferred

                  License/Certification:


                  • CCRC Preferred

                    Computer Skills:


                    • IDX, Meditech, NextGen, PACS experience a plus

                      Other:


                      • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
