Maintenance and Facilities Manager

 

Position Objective:

Oversee general maintenance activities of the physical plant/building and facilities, all machinery, troubleshooting, repairs and rebuilds on all manufacturing and facility equipment as needed. Focus preventative efforts throughout the plant. Manage the installation and start-up of manufacturing equipment.  Work closely with production personnel to resolve machine issues and improve productivity and quality.  This position requires experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance preferably in the printing industry. 

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  2. Will be responsible for building services, including permitting and building upkeep and to be in compliant with local and state authorities.
  3. Responsible for working with procurement to order parts.
  4. Oversee the maintenance Kaizen and SMED initiatives in the Maintenance Department.  Assist other departments in their events as required.
  5. Require proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and multi-task whenever necessary.
  6. Plan, organize, coordinate administer and direct the work of the Maintenance and Facilities Department.
  7. Prepare, monitor and maintain an environment of continuous improvement through the establishment of operational action plans and budgets.
  8. Direct facilities, construction and electrical maintenance activities.  This includes planning, estimating, scheduling, inspecting and monitor work being scheduled and performed.
  9. Oversee staff over multiple shifts on maintenance projects.
  10. Oversee the Kaizen and SMED events on machines.
  11. Troubleshoot and repair machine breakdowns.
  12. Document tasks done and parts used on maintenance work orders.  Prepares and maintains all records and enters records into database.
  13. Take on projects to build or modify equipment.
  14. Work with production to resolve machine issues that limit productivity and quality.
  15. Executes effective prioritization practices and tasks in a highly-pressured and fast paced environment.
  16. Builds, manages and motivates a strong, competent team by training employees to perform at their full potential and by creating a culture of quality and proactive achievement in preventative efforts.
  17. Ensures compliance with WSPG policies, Safety, Kaizen, 6S Standards, city, state and local regulations as they apply in to the maintenance and facilities activities.
  18. Ensure all guards are in place and equipment is safe to operate.
  19. Work closely with department heads to make decisions to reduce down time and schedule PM’s and repairs.
  20. Must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, off days and holiday as needed.
  21. Required to work 12 hour shifts; required to work weekends as scheduled on a regular or as-needed basis.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Should have either a journeyman’s’ card or equivalent of college education. 
Previous experience in the Printing industry with Management experience.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Must have a working knowledge of PLC’s and servo controls. Must be able to read and understand both electric and pneumatic schematics.
  2. Electrical knowledge and experience.
    Licensed electrician is a plus.
  3. Mechanical knowledge and experience including troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance.
  4. Self-motivated and able to work without constant supervision.
  5. Able to work under pressure and adapt to frequent changes.
  6. Be able to understand electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings.
  7. Familiar with AC and DC drives, high voltage power and low voltage control circuits.
  8. Familiar with mechanical power transmission components, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  9. Have a good working knowledge of hand tools and tooling used on these machines.
  10. Better than average computer skills.

Physical Demands:

Works in a manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  May, on a continuous basis, stand for a long period of time and stoop and kneel frequently. May handle, feel and reach for items in and around press area, also write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Continual walking and lifting and/or move up to 50 lbs. may be required.  Ability to work in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines.
