We are looking for a Registered Nurse II for the Emergency Room Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 72 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 12-hour, Nights

Job Summary:

The RN independently uses the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for a group of patients. Uses information from a variety of sources to assess, plan, implement, identify outcomes and evaluate patient's plan of care.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitates patient care through effective communication.

  • Develops and maintains therapeutic and effective relationships with patient/family and the health care team.

  • Delegates care appropriately.

  • Participates in Shared Governance/Participative Leadership.

  • Demonstrates awareness of unit and service guidelines related to staffing and scheduling.

  • Emergency Room, 701000-F01:
  • Responsible for patients in the emergency department.

  • Assists physicians with special tests and procedures (chest tube insertion, CVP line insertion, thoracentesis, paracentesis, pneumatic tourniquet, cautery, etc.).

  • As a member of the code blue team, consistently acts as a leader in code situations. Directs those aspects of code protocol as the ED code team member. Consistently completes or assists in the completion of all documentation records required of codes.

  • When certified as MICN, consistently performs on radio within county guidelines, policies and procedures, and involves base physician as appropriate. Meets daily assignment responsibilities when assigned to the radio. In a timely manner, maintains educational requirements, tape reviews, ride-alongs and completes CEU's appropriate for Pre-Hospital Care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of alleged domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse, child and adult sexual assault protocol with accurate completion of all appropriate forms. Intervenes and makes appropriate referrals for victim witness, social service and police departments.

  • All Full-time RN's will be expected to obtain MICN certification. Education provided.

  • Will complete SJMC ED competencies in Moderate Sedation, Ketamine, Triage, COBRA/EMTALA, and other specific competencies as required.

Minimum Position Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing:
  • Graduate from nursing school (Hired on/after 1/1/11), or Hired prior to 1/1/11 (and rehired after 1/1/11)

  • Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; or Hired as a result of a unit transfer from Heritage:

  • Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; or Hired as a ministry transfer:

  • Currently enrolled in a BSN program with an expected graduation date within 6 months of hire.

Experience: One (1) year acute care experience.


  • Current CA Registered Nurse License.

  • American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • Professional Nursing Organization Membership

  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
