About the Position: The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Programs (DIEP) supports the University's mission of preparing our diverse student body for academic and professional success. Specifically, DIEP endeavors to facilitate practice, offer programming, and influence policies across the broad spectrum of inclusivity, equity and civility. These endeavors promote a campus community wherein students, staff and faculty are engaged in the values of inclusive excellence. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Academic Diversity Officer. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness. The Academic Diversity Officer is responsible for leading the effort to define and implement plans to enhance the recruitment, inclusion and long-term success of faculty, particularly those from underrepresented groups. As the primary strategy leader for faculty recruitment, the position will assess potential barriers and recommend strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse academic workforce. The position will guide the development and implementation of proactive initiatives which will support the University's strategic plan goals. The Academic Diversity Officer is an experienced professional, passionate about driving diversity and inclusion strategy and fostering a culture to enable all employees to do meaningful, impactful work in an inclusive environment. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, this position also assists with the implementation of the affirmative action plan, offers a diversity lens on the facilitation of recruitment and retention of employees, and champions practices that further campus commitment to inclusive excellence. The Academic Diversity Officer will collaborate with the Assistant Vice President to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion goals and priorities that directly affect the campus climate. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential QualificationsMaster's Degree in related field and five years of progressive related experience. Experience with retention and promotion policies, professional development, and assessment. Experience with, and knowledge of basic faculty personnel transactions (e.g., recruitments and appointments, leaves, etc.). Understands faculty policy development and shared governance. Ability to make objective analyses of current academic personnel management problems, experience with academic employee relations and collective bargaining. Familiarity with equal employment opportunity and affirmative action practices, including developing and implementing affirmative action plans. Proficiency in compiling and analyzing workforce diversity data. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Preferred QualificationsAdministrative experience in a higher education environment such as department chair or faculty director. Demonstrated experience developing Affirmative Action plans and reviewing candidate pools for university hiring. Experience training members of search committees in a higher education environment. Experience in the California State University system.
